For future balancing, statistics for kills/deaths/etc. should be counted for each unit. As you can imagine, it'll be a lot of work.

Having data for each unit be stored and retrievable would be extremely interesting for balance purposes, but unfortunately there is a limit to the amount of data that can be stored game to game, and this would require much more space than is available. Also, data is stored client-side on each player's own computer, meaning it would be very easy to tamper with it.

Unfortunately at this point saving balance data regarding individual units can't be done via the in-game bank system itself. Perhaps there is a method to do this with 3rd party tools (the way a website like SC2Ranks can collect a whole bunch of data automatically), but I'm not familiar enough with those kinds of things to create it.

Do you have any familiarity with the SC2 editor and its bank system? I know there are ways to compress integers into strings to save space (I don't currently do this because the main library that accomplishes this on SC2Mapster has been reported to be bugged after patch 1.5 came out), and if you or anyone else is good at working with these types of things, I'd be happy to learn and brainstorm with you!

You can actually. I'm not too familiar with it myself, but it's definitely possible.

For example, Star Battle statistics are gathered from replays during tournaments using a program with .NET. I'll try to find out a bit more about it, though you'd know more about it than I do.
